About the opportunity

In this team lead role, you will be responsible for managing a small team while actively  driving the technical direction and success of our software development initiatives. You will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient workflow, high-quality deliverables, and adherence to best practices and depending upon your skills, there may also be an opportunity to be hands-on.

About your responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of robust and scalable web applications using Python, Django, and related technologies.
• Be responsible for implementing development best practices e.g. coding standards, test automation and quality metrics.
• Guide the team in the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.
• Oversee the delivery of software projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
• Identify and mitigate potential risks and issues that may impact project timelines and success.
• Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the team remains at the forefront of innovation.
• Contribute to the development of new software features and applications as needed.
• Lead and mentor a team of 3 software developers and 1 tester, providing guidance, support, and performance feedback.

What you'll need to succeed

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in software development plus experience managing a small development team.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum, Kanban)
• Practical experience of web architectures and tools such as build pipelines, test automation tools and cloud hosting solutions.

Role location

Open to fully remote or hybrid working within 30 minutes of Cardiff
